Xi Alpha Alpha chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority donated $3,000 to Amory Main Street, Inc. for the purchase of new lights to replace the white globes throughout the park. The new lights are lantern style cast aluminum globes with 26-inch decorative post bases that slip over the 12-foot poles. Some of the poles were cut down to a height which is more appropriate for the new lighting.
Mayor Howard Boozer said the new fixtures are a real boost for the appearance of the park which is the hub of activities in downtown Amory. The project was done in partnership with Amory Main Street, Inc., the City of Amory, the Amory Utilities Department and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Xi Alph Alpha chapter.
According to Amory Main Street (AMS) manager Lorie Bryant, Amory Main Street wanted to give the park’s lighting a facelift, but also wanted it to look historically accurate in keeping wih the look of the park’s clock.
“Revitalization is important to any community,” Bryant said. “We all want to be places that are inviting to us. We have to market Amory as a destination. Revitalization is part of AMS’s mission statement.” The utilities department installed the new lights and inmate labor was used to paint all the light poles black.
“We host the Amory Railroad Festival’s Frisco Marketplace in this park each year which is our sole fundraiser, and our club just wanted to give back to the city and to that park by making a significant donation,” said Beta Sigma Phi outgoing president Cheryl Peeler. “The new lights will be a great asset and we’re proud to have helped with it.”
“Beta Sigma Phi’s generous donation to Amory Main Street, Inc. to complete the Frisco Park Lighting Revitalization Project for our downtown allowed AMS to pruchase the new lighting, decorative light pole bases and paint and paint supplies,” Bryant said.
And a note from Amory Main Street Association, Inc.
Amory Main Street has completed the Lighting Revitalization Project which has given Amory’s Frisco Park a “new look.” Replacing lighting fixtures along with the decorative bases for the poles and a fresh coat of paint have given Frisco Park an updated appearance more in keeping with the clock.
Amory Main Street and its Board of Directors greatly thank the Xi Alpha chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority in Amory, The City of Amory and the City of Amory Utility Department for their support and partnership in this project. Main Street gives special thanks the Beta Club, without their generous donation, completion of this project would not have been possible. Their support means a lot in projecting a positive image for our hometown.
